© Provided by Mid-DayAfter calling Meghan Markle a ‘liar’ and ‘evil’, Simi Garewal backtracked and referred to her as ‘calculating’ due to the backlash from social media users. The actor and talk show host could not digest what Markle and Prince Harry said on Oprah Winfrey’s show. “Meghan is lying to make herself a victim. She is using the race card to gain sympathy,” posted Garewal. Netizens wondered if she was suffering from a colonial hangover. Many questioned Garewal`s veracity to make such bold claims, considering the fact that she is not even related to the Royal family. 'I don`t know what will Meghan do now as the whole point of her interview was to convince Simi Garewal,' wrote a user. Another user wrote: 'Such an evil and insensitive comment from @Simi_Garewal. Were you there to witness everything? Diana said the same things about the Royal family in her interview and how brave she was facing everything all alone.' I withdraw the word `evil`. It was excessive. Calculating would have been more appropriate... — Simi Garewal (@Simi_Garewal) March 8, 2021 Some joked that Simi was 'jealous' with the fact that the couple gave the interview to Winfrey instead of her. 'Could it be that you are a bit jealous of Oprah doing this interview instead of you?,' wrote a user. Some called it an attention-seeking stunt. '@simi_garewal is plain stupid.Who is she to comment on Meghan Markle! This is only for publicity as taking off her clothes does not help her anymore,' wrote a user on Twitter.

  3. 1 day ago  Meghan Markle was seen carrying her and Prince Harry's 1-year-old son Archie when she stepped out for an outing this week, and it sparked some safety concerns among social media users.

Just days before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's sit-down interview with Oprah, a suspiciously-timed article has dropped about Meghan. On top of palace aides accusing the duchess of bullying (which she has denied in a statement), the Times reports she wore a pair of earrings back in 2018 that were allegedly gifted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—who was recently found by U.S. intelligence to be responsible for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The fact that Meghan is being called out for wearing these earrings (at a state dinner in Fiji three years ago) right before her tell-all has understandably drawn a lot of criticism. Especially since—per The Telegraph—Meghan's lawyers say she was unaware there was any speculation that the Crown Prince was involved in Khashoggi's murder when she wore them.

Supporters of Meghan have hopped on Twitter to defend her and point out the hypocrisy at play here compared to how other royal controversies have been handled:

We're getting to the point where if Meghan Markle were to take a posy offered to her, the press would report it as:

'Evil Duchess steals flowers from child.'

Imagine for a moment if we lived in a world where the media scrutinised Prince Andrew as much as they do Meghan Markle

I agree with #PiersMorgan sometimes but the obsession he has with slagging everything Meghan Markle does is very toxic...

Markle

Why doesn't he concentrate his vitriol on slagging Prince Andrew off this much... He barely mentions him.

Again, Meghan has also been accused of'bullying' by palace aides. Her rep released a statement on the matter, saying,“The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma. She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”

A statement was also given to the Times, saying,'Let’s just call this what it is—a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation. We are disappointed to see this defamatory portrayal of The Duchess of Sussex given credibility by a media outlet.”
